How to check Cursor usage in three places
The Cursor dashboard for billing, the Usage summary setting while you code, and UsageAtlas for history across your AI tools.
The easiest way to check Cursor usage day to day is UsageAtlas, a free desktop tracker that keeps Cursor's numbers with history and next to your other AI coding tools. Here is how to check Cursor usage in the other two places too: Cursor's web dashboard for the billing view, and the Usage summary setting inside the editor for a quick look while you work.
Option 1: a desktop tracker
Cursor's own views only ever show Cursor. If you also run Claude Code, Codex or Copilot, checking each one separately gets old fast. UsageAtlas is a free, open-source app for Windows, macOS and Linux that reads your signed-in Cursor desktop session and shows:
- plan usage, Auto + Composer and API usage as Cursor reports them;
- daily and longer history, with a comparison to the previous period;
- the same view for your other supported coding tools, with a filter for Cursor alone.
There is no Cursor API key to paste, no account needed for local tracking, and it does not read your prompts or responses. You can set a threshold for a usage window and get one desktop alert per reset cycle.
Option 2: Cursor's web dashboard
This is the official answer and the one to trust for money.
- Sign in at cursor.com and open your dashboard.
- On legacy Cursor plans, open Billing & Invoices. Cursor's help page says you will see Included Usage, covered by your subscription, and On-Demand Usage, charged above it.
- Look under Spending if you want to set or change a spend limit for on-demand usage.
Cursor now splits some help pages by plan type, and newer subscriptions check usage on a different dashboard page. If the steps above do not match what you see, follow the Cursor usage-based charges page for your plan.
Team admins get a Usage section on the team dashboard, which Cursor describes as tracking AI requests, model usage and resource consumption across team members.
Option 3: the Usage summary inside Cursor
You do not always want a browser tab. Cursor has a Usage summary setting that, set to Always, keeps a usage display in the chat pane instead of showing it only some of the time. Its place in the settings has moved between versions, so the fastest route is to open Cursor Settings and search for "usage summary". The tip comes from Cursor's community forum rather than the main docs, so expect it to change.
Which method answers which question
| You want to know | Best place |
|---|---|
| What you will be billed | Cursor dashboard |
| How much is used while you code | Usage summary in Cursor, or UsageAtlas |
| How this week compares to last | UsageAtlas |
| Total use across Cursor and Claude Code | UsageAtlas |
| Team members' usage | Cursor team dashboard |
A note on accuracy
Numbers that come from a provider can lag. Cost figures in UsageAtlas are estimates, so when a number has to be exact, confirm it in your Cursor account. That is also why the dashboard stays the right first stop for billing disputes or refunds.
If you only check once a month
Then the Cursor dashboard is enough, and you can skip the rest. The editor setting helps if you run long agent tasks and want to see usage move. The tracker earns its place once Cursor is one tool among several, or once you want a warning before you run low rather than a surprise after.
FAQ
Where is usage in Cursor settings? Search Cursor Settings for "usage summary" and set it to Always. The setting has moved between releases, so search is more reliable than a menu path.
Can I check Cursor usage without opening the browser? Yes. Use the in-editor Usage summary, or a desktop tracker such as UsageAtlas, which reads the signed-in Cursor session on your computer.
