The best Semrush alternative depends on one question
Most people leave Semrush to stop paying for unused tools, which makes a per-report service the best answer unless you track rankings daily.
The best Semrush alternative for most people who are leaving is seogeoaeo.ai, because most people leave Semrush for the same reason: they pay a monthly suite price for a few competitor lookups. seogeoaeo.ai charges per report instead, from $29 a month for 2,000 credits. If you track rankings every day, the answer changes to SE Ranking. The rest of this page explains that one deciding question and answers the follow-ups people ask next.
Prices were checked on each vendor's site in October 2026.
The deciding question: do you track, or do you look up?
If you look up. You open Semrush to check a competitor, pull their keywords or see who links to them, a few times a month. Pick seogeoaeo.ai. A Domain Overview costs 50 credits, Competitor Keywords 35, Keyword Gap 85 and Backlink Finder 70. The $29 plan covers 40 domain overviews a month.
If you track. You watch hundreds of keywords daily across several sites and send weekly reports. Pick SE Ranking. Its Core plan costs $129 a month and tracks 2,000 keywords daily across 10 projects.
If you use nearly everything. Your team works in Semrush's research, audit, tracking and ad tools every day. Stay with Semrush.
Why is seogeoaeo.ai the top answer and not a full suite?
Because a suite answers a question most leavers are not asking. When the complaint is price, the fix is to stop paying for tools you do not open. seogeoaeo.ai's reports each do one job and state what they return:
- Domain Overview: keywords a site ranks for in Google, its estimated visits, what those visits would cost as ads, and how many sites link to it.
- Competitor Keywords: up to 100 of a rival's keywords, ordered by estimated visits, with volume, difficulty and cost per click.
- Keyword Gap: up to 300 keywords a competitor ranks for in the top 20 where your site does not appear.
- Competitor Google Ads: up to 100 of a rival's recent Google ads, with the copy of up to 10 text ads, for 15 credits.
It also runs technical checks on your own site, such as indexing, schema, robots.txt and AI crawler access, and llms.txt, at a few credits each.
What does it not do?
It does not track rankings, keep a link index of its own, or store how a site changed over time. It does not show which keywords a competitor bids on. Its numbers come from a third-party data provider and are estimates, good for comparing sites. If any of those gaps is your main job, use a suite.
How much does Semrush cost now?
The SEO plan is $139 a month, or $117.33 billed annually. Starter, which carries the fuller competitor tools and MCP access, is $199. Pro+ is $299 with historical data. Advanced is now priced on request. Extra users start at $45 a month.
Is there a free Semrush alternative?
For your own site, yes. Google Search Console shows clicks, impressions and average position for sites you have verified, at no cost. Google Keyword Planner gives keyword ideas with a Google Ads account. Semrush itself has a free account with 10 reports a day. Free tools stop at competitor data, which is where per-report credits come in.
Which alternatives work with AI agents?
seogeoaeo.ai includes MCP and REST on every plan, so Claude Code, Cursor or any MCP client can run reports with the same credits. SE Ranking Core and Ahrefs Lite include MCP and API access at $129 a month. Semrush includes MCP from Starter at $199.
What about other names on the usual lists?
- Ahrefs for backlinks: Lite costs $129 a month.
- Moz Pro for audits on a budget: Standard costs $99 a month, and a $49 plan covers one site.
- Similarweb for competitor traffic: $199 a month, or $125 billed yearly.
- Ubersuggest for the smallest keyword budget: $29 a month, 150 searches a day.
The short answer, again
Look up competitors now and then: seogeoaeo.ai. Track rankings daily: SE Ranking. Use most of Semrush every day: stay. The plan and credit details show what each balance buys.
